Across Iowa

Land use issues across the state are unique in their own ways, but often the lessons learned in can be valuable insights for another community to consider. Instead of feeling isolated and hopeless with local land use challenges, citizens can unite with community members and utilize the insights learned elsewhere about how to achieve responsible land use.

When people contact 1000 Friends of Iowa about local land use issues, we offer expertise, strategic advice, and models of sustainable development practices from Iowa and across the US. With creativity, committment, and focus ...

Citizens can make a difference locally on decisions about

  • What to build next and where
  • How land can be used responsibly
  • How to build better communities for future generations

1000 Friends of Iowa provides updates on local land use issues in each publication of the Land Use Bulletin, a quarterly printed newsletter that is mailed to 1000 Friends of Iowa members.

As the 1000 Friends of Iowa website grows, it'll strengthen our ability to keep members updated on local issues and make information available to more people through the click of a button. More local pages will be added and information on local land use history, current hot issues, and solutions for sustainability will be available. As always, the greatest strength of 1000 Friends is our members who will help make not only their communities a better place, but their local section of this website a reflection of our work together.
