1000 Friends would like to express thanks to “Team Scmoooze”, a RAGBRAI team whose members hail from all over the United States and gather annually in Iowa to participate in RAGBRAI, for their recent donation.

1000 Friends of Iowa staff, along with many allies across the state, worked to respond to the specific needs of historic buildings and main streets left vulnerable to demolition following this summer’s floods. Our involvement naturally required unanticipated, but necessary, time and expense. Because members of Team Scmoooze have been active in 1000 Friends of Iowa over the years board member, LaVon Griffieon, approached them as a possible source of support in our flood recovery efforts. Their response was immediate. Members raised $2,000.00 to support 1000 Friends’ work in the ongoing flood recovery effort.

Al Brody, a member of Team Schmoooze, said “The Iowa that keeps us coming back is one of rural communities with Iowans that have a propensity for spontaneous acts of incredible hospitality.  Over the last 14 years, Team Schmoooze members have experienced many amazing moments because of the people of Iowa .” He went on to say “Team Schmoooze believes the "specialness" of small town Iowa can be preserved and The Scmooozers want to help KFOI with their mission.”  

The funds will be used exclusively to support the development of an outreach program which will deliver organized materials and resources to aid in the restoration and preservation of historic buildings and small town centers devastated by the floods.
