GOVERNOR CULVER NAMES APPOINTEES TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSION, IOWA FINANCE AUTHORITY BOARD

DES MOINES – Today, Governor Chet Culver announced new appointees to the Environmental Protection Commission and the Iowa Finance Authority Board.

“It is my pleasure to name Shearon Elderkin to the Environmental Protection Commission and Wilfred Johnson and Darlys Buam to the Iowa Finance Authority Board.  Their skills and expertise will be invaluable to state government,” said Governor Chet Culver.  “As Governor, I am committed to giving more Iowans an opportunity to take an active role in their government.  One way to do so is through serving on a state board or commission.  If interested, please contact our office at 515.281.5211 or visit our website at www.governor.iowa.gov.”

Below are biographies and board descriptions for the individuals Governor Culver appointed today.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSION:  Nine person commission that provides policy oversight of Iowa ’s Environmental Efforts.

Shearon Elderkin – Republican, Cedar Rapids .  Shearon was an elementary teacher in the Cedar Rapids School District from 1963-1966.  She is currently serving on the Friends of the Linn County Conservation Board, Iowa Chapter of the Sierra Club and the Cedar Rapids Garden Club, and until 2007 served on the 1000 Friends of Iowa Board.  She has served many other organizations including the Linn County Conservation Board, the Linn County Integrated Roadside Management Committee, the Indian Creek Nature Center , Iowana Council of Camp Fire Boys and Girls, and the Junior League of Cedar Rapids.  Shearon was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Elementary Education.
